Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty

The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty was a U.S.-Soviet accord signed in 1972 that limited the number of anti-ballistic missile systems. Its purpose was to prevent a new arms race and reduce the risk of a nuclear first strike. The U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the treaty in 2002.
