Intergovernmental Agreement on the Asian Highway Network

The Intergovernmental Agreement on the Asian Highway Network, which came into force in 2005, is a U.N. treaty initiated by ESCAP. Its purpose is to promote regional economic cooperation and trade by establishing a unified road network connecting 32 countries across Asia and to Europe. The agreement provides a framework for the development and maintenance of the highway system.
