The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia officially succeeded the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) on January 1, 2025. Its core mandate is to support the Federal Government of Somalia in its fight against terrorist groups like Al-Shabaab and to further the process of transferring full security responsibility to the Somali Security Forces (SSF) by the end of 2029.
