The British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) is a U.K. overseas territory comprised of seven atolls in the Indian Ocean. The entire population, the Chagossians, was forcibly removed in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for a joint U.S.-U.K. military base on the island of Diego Garcia.
