The Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency is an international treaty adopted in 1986. Created in direct response to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the convention obligates nations to notify the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other countries of a nuclear accident and to provide assistance when requested.
