Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network

The Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network, which came into force in 2009, is a U.N. treaty initiated by ESCAP. Its purpose is to promote regional and inter-regional economic cooperation and trade by establishing a unified railway network across 28 countries in Asia and connecting them to Europe. The agreement provides a framework for the development and maintenance of the rail system.
