
U.K. calls for Brexit snap election that may decide E.U. departure
Brexit will serve as backdrop after lawmakers authorized the first December national election in almost a century.
Brexit is the process of the U.K. leaving the E.U. The decision was made by a public referendum on June 23, 2016, and the U.K. officially withdrew on January 31, 2020. The new relationship is now governed by the Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
