
U.N. targets nexus of terror and small arms
The U.N.'s counterterrorism chief launched a new project taking on the threat posed by terror groups, organized crime and trafficking in illicit small arms.
The Firearms Protocol is the only legally binding U.N. instrument to combat the illicit manufacturing and trafficking of firearms, their parts, and ammunition on a global scale. It requires nations to criminalize such acts and to establish regulatory frameworks for licit transfers to prevent their diversion into illegal markets.
