General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT)

The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was a multilateral international treaty that promoted free trade by reducing tariffs and other trade barriers. GATT acted as the de facto framework for global trade for nearly 50 years until it was superseded by the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995.
