High seas treaty moves a step closer to reality among U.N. delegates
A new treaty is being negotiated aimed at protecting the rich biodiversity of the open ocean against commercial pressures.
The High Seas Alliance is a partnership of over 40 non-governmental organizations and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. It advocates for the conservation and protection of the high seas, which lie outside national jurisdiction. Its mission is to raise global awareness and promote the adoption of a strong U.N. treaty for the protection of marine biodiversity in these vast, unregulated oceans.
