Trump pressures NATO allies over Iran war, deepening transatlantic rift

The US. demands quick commitments to secure the Strait of Hormuz as the president lashes out at alliance members.

Donald Trump stepped up pressure on NATO allies, demanding rapid military commitments to help secure the Strait of Hormuz while criticizing the alliance as unreliable.

In social media posts following a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump accused allies of failing to act without pressure. "None of these people, including our own, very disappointing, NATO, understood anything unless they have pressure placed upon them!!!" he wrote on Thursday.
