U.N. assembly formally endorses two-country solution declaration

Crafted by an unusual alliance of France and Saudi Arabia, the declaration is a bid to re-energize a stalled peace process.

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a new declaration on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, setting up a fresh diplomatic showdown that starkly isolates the U.S. and Israel against a broad global coalition.

The resolution, which passed by a 142-10 vote, is a largely symbolic rebuke of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and its refusal to embrace a two-country solution.
