GENEVA (AN) — In his first speech to the U.N. weather agency, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres took on the deniers of climate science and meteorology and urged nations to rapidly strengthen early warning systems to protect against extreme weather.

Speaking at the World Meteorological Organization's Extraordinary Congress on Wednesday, Guterres praised the global organization as "a barometer of truth" and "a shining example of science supporting humanity," but framed his remarks as a direct pushback against global disinformation efforts.
