GENEVA (AN) — The International Committee of the Red Cross approved a severe 17% budget reduction for 2026, dropping its funding to CHF 1.8 billion ($2.24 billion).

The decision, driven by declining donor contributions amid escalating conflicts, forces ICRC to eliminate about 2,900 full-time equivalent positions and intensify its focus on front-line operations globally.
