International monitors to de-escalate conflict by UNESCO site

The ceasefire provides a much-needed pause but a definitive resolution has eluded Thailand and Cambodia for decades.

A fragile ceasefire has been extended between Thailand and Cambodia, providing a temporary reprieve after five days of intense border clashes reignited a long-standing territorial dispute.

The conflict, centered on the ancient Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, displaced more than 300,000 people and resulted in at least 43 deaths, making it the deadliest fighting in the region in more than a decade.
