U.N. chief urges Houthi rebels to release 59 staff detained in Yemen

The U.N. staff detained by Houthis in Yemen are in addition to dozens of staff from NGOs and diplomatic missions.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres expressed grave concern and condemned Houthi de facto authorities for referring detained U.N. personnel to a special criminal court.

Court procedures for the staff began in Sanaa on Tuesday, marking a severe escalation in the Houthis' crackdown on international aid workers in Yemen. Guterres called on the de facto authorities to rescind the referral and immediately release all detained personnel.
