U.N. postal agency warns tariffs and conflict shrink global delivery routes

The global postal network is coming under mounting pressure from trade restrictions, armed conflict and declining revenues, with international postal traffic shrinking across most routes despite an apparent rise in shipments.

The Universal Postal Union reported Friday that international mail volumes fell 9.8% on a typical route in the 12 months through July, even as the total number of recorded shipments rose 21.1%.
