WASHINGTON (AN) — The Trump administration plans to release $850 million toward billions of dollars in unpaid United Nations dues, offering some short-term relief to an organization that has warned its cash crisis could threaten basic operations before the end of the year.
The State Department notified Congress that it intends to provide $725 million toward the U.N.’s regular budget and another $125 million for peacekeeping operations in Haiti and Congo, according to congressional notifications first reported by Reuters and later obtained by The Associated Press.
