Climate cases spread across Africa over rights, energy and development

Regional and national tribunals are being asked to define how countries can balance climate action with economic growth.

Climate-related lawsuits are expanding across Africa, with courts at national and regional levels drawn into disputes over energy, development and environmental protection.

At the center is a growing effort to use existing legal systems, particularly human rights law, in defining what governments and companies must do in response to climate change.
