Trump calls U.S. the real U.N. after Thailand, Cambodia ceasefire

The comments were consistent with Trump’s long-standing hostility toward the U.N. and multilateralism more broadly.

WASHINGTON (AN) — U.S. President Donald Trump intensified his long-running criticism of multilateral institutions, saying the United States is effectively doing the work of the United Nations after a ceasefire ended weeks of fighting between Thailand and Cambodia.

In a post on his social media platform on Sunday, Trump said the two Southeast Asian neighbors would "go back to living in peace" under the ceasefire agreement and credited U.S. diplomatic engagement with helping bring about the truce. He contrasted Washington’s role with what he described as limited effectiveness by the U.N., urging the organization to become more active in resolving global conflicts.
