UNEP schedules session to organize the resumption of plastic treaty talks

Negotiators must finish the financial mechanism and agree on binding measures to phase out toxic chemicals in plastics.

GENEVA (AN) — The U.N. Environment Program confirmed the schedule for organizing the resumption of the deadlocked plastic treaty talks.

The third part of the fifth session of UNEP's Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee, known as INC-5.3, is set to begin on Feb. 7 at the Geneva International Conference Center. UNEP clarified, however, that the meeting will be purely organizational and logistical, serving as a precursor to the full resumption of substantive negotiations.
