UNHCR pleads for urgent winter funding as donor support drops

The agency is launching its global winter fundraising campaign to raise at least $35 million for refugees globally.

GENEVA (AN) — Millions of refugees and people displaced within their own countries face a punishing winter with severely diminished aid, UNHCR warned, citing plummeting humanitarian funds globally.

Humanitarian budgets are "stretched to the breaking point," said Dominique Hyde, the U.N. refugee agency's external relations director, and the winter support offered this year will be "much less."
