WHO teams with Big Tech to fight against the coronavirus 'infodemic'

Officials are concerned about misinformation on the outbreak, including conspiracy theories and secret cures.

GENEVA (AN) — The World Health Organization is pushing back against bogus social media claims, including secret cures, vaccines, and theories about Chinese biological weapons, during the global coronavirus outbreak.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a public health expert and former Ethiopian foreign affairs and health minister, told the opening of the U.N. health agency's executive board meeting that it's enlisting major tech companies to "combat the spread of rumors and misinformation."
