Global parliamentarians vow to push humanitarian law amid crises

GENEVA (AN) — As global conflicts multiply, political leaders representing 132 nations concluded a five-day summit here by adopting a new declaration aimed at fortifying international humanitarian law and increasing aid efforts.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union, the global organization of national parliaments, ended its 151st Assembly on Thursday, gathering under the theme of parliamentary support for humanitarian action. The choice of location — Geneva, the birthplace of the 1949 Geneva Conventions — underscored the meeting’s focus on preventing civilian suffering in war.
