GENEVA (AN) — Governments are gathering in Geneva for a short but consequential procedural session of the United Nations’ global plastics treaty negotiations, seeking to stabilize the process after talks collapsed without agreement late last year.

The one-day meeting, known as INC-5.3, is planned for Saturday under the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee established by the United Nations Environment Program. While no treaty text will be reopened, the session will address organizational matters, including the election of a new bureau and steering committee, and clarify working methods ahead of resumed negotiations later in 2026.
