Mayors urge decisive climate action, seeking global 'decade of delivery'

Calling themselves 'climate doers,' city leaders criticized a lack of ambition among some nations toward the Paris treaty goals.

Three hundred mayors gathered in Brazil for the C40 World Mayors Summit to deliver a unified message of accelerated climate action and demand a greater role in global policy days before the U.N.'s COP30 begins.

Calling themselves "climate doers," city leaders on Monday criticized a lack of ambition among some nations and launched the Cool Cities Accelerator, a new global coalition of 33 cities — representing over 145 million people — that is dedicated to preparing urban centers for extreme heat.
