World leaders overwhelmingly approved a plan to overhaul how the world treats chronic disease and mental health, overcoming a diplomatic split at the U.N. to set hard targets for 2030.

The political declaration on noncommunicable diseases and mental health passed in the U.N. General Assembly on Monday by a vote of 175-2 marks the first time the international community has grouped physical illnesses like heart disease and diabetes with mental health.
