U.N., European leaders alarmed at impacts of U.S. action in Venezuela

The action raised urgent questions on international law and regional stability as Venezuela turned to the U.N. in protest.

U.N. and European officials expressed great concern over U.S. military action in Venezuela, warning of potentially serious implications for international law, human rights, and regional stability.

"The U.S. military action has potential worrying implications for the region," Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement on Saturday delivered at U.N. headquarters by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric. "Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent."
