U.N., ICC and others issue dire warnings on atrocities in Sudan

The ICC prosecutor's office is investigating reports of 'mass killings, rapes, and other crimes' by paramilitary forces.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres and the International Criminal Court's prosecutor raised the highest level of alarm over reports of atrocities and a spiraling humanitarian crisis in El Fasher, North Darfur.

Guterres, speaking to reporters in Doha on Tuesday, corroborated "the horrifying crisis in Sudan, which is spiraling out of control" after El Fasher's capture by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. He cited "widespread" executions, "horrifying instances of gender-based and ethnic violence," and indiscriminate targeting of civilians and hospitals.
