GENEVA (AN) — El Niño conditions are likely to develop in coming months, raising the risk of floods, droughts, heat waves and other climate disruptions worldwide, the World Meteorological Organization said.

The U.N. weather agency said on Tuesday there is an 80% probability that El Niño conditions will emerge between June and August and a roughly 90% probability they will persist through the remainder of 2026. Most forecast models indicate the event will be moderate in strength, though some suggest it could become strong.
