Europe boosts defense spending as E.U.-U.K. coordination lags behind

BRUSSELS (AN) – European countries are accelerating defense spending and expanding industrial capacity in response to a more volatile security environment, but coordination between the European Union and the United Kingdom is struggling to keep pace, officials and industry representatives said.

Speaking at the E.U.–U.K. Forum’s annual conference on Thursday, participants described a rapid shift in Europe’s security posture as governments reassess long-standing reliance on the United States and move to strengthen domestic production and cross-border cooperation.
