Global health emergency declared over Ebola in Congo and Uganda

The World Health Organization warned the Ebola outbreak could be far larger than what is now detected and reported.

The head of the World Health Organization has determined that Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus in Congo and Uganda rises to the level of "a public health emergency of international concern," but does not meet the criteria of pandemic emergency.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Sunday that he made his determination after consulting with authorities in those two countries, and that he will convene an emergency committee as soon as possible to help advise how best to respond.
