Four candidates seeking to become the next United Nations secretary-general set out differing priorities in public dialogues with the General Assembly, offering a rare, extended look at how each would approach a role constrained by deep divisions among the world’s major powers.

The sessions, held from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night, come as Secretary-General António Guterres enters the final year of his term and as the Security Council remains unable to act on wars in Ukraine, Iran and elsewhere.
