GENEVA (AN) — U.N. human rights chief Volker Türk condemned what he called the "slaughter of Palestinian civilians" in Gaza, telling the 60th session of the U.N. Human Rights Council that Israel "has a case to answer" before the International Court of Justice.

Türk cited "mounting" evidence of "war crime upon war crime" in his opening address to the 47-nation council on Monday, adding that Israel’s "mass killing" and "hindering of sufficient lifesaving aid" are "shocking the conscience of the world."
