From disease to pollution, health leaders asked to do more with less

Much of the financial angst this year was caused by the absence and impending withdrawal of the United States.

GENEVA (AN) — As the 78th World Health Assembly came to a close, global health leaders and policymakers were being asked to make and follow through on decisions shaped by new contours of power and money.

The governing body for the World Health Organization finished its annual gathering on Tuesday, after giving the go-ahead to a pandemic treaty, a new budget and 20% increase in annual membership fees, and recognition of the need for social connection in promoting health, but deciding to postpone action to prevent fake or substandard medicine.
