The global financial burden of tackling climate change took center stage as U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres opened a high-level summit with leaders pressing for debt relief to fund new decarbonization plans.

The meeting in New York on Wednesday, a prelude to COP30 in Brazil, served as a platform for nations to present their updated national climate plans that are meant to reflect bold action for the next decade.
